We've been going here for years and I always leave happy. It's good diner food. Nothing fancy but hits the spot. Love going in on Saturday mornings for some Bloody Mary's and breakfast. They've now changed their menu and it's nice and tight. They've added some new items and dropped a lot of the unnecessary stuff. Don't go in expecting some fancy dining. You will be disappointed. And of course their pastries and cakes are awesome. Try the Crab Benedict. It's awesome!!

This place is filthy and the food is dreadful. How can you screw up breakfast? Arners can! I'd write more about my experience but not worth my time. Simple advice - Stay away or simply starve.

HORRIBLE! this place gives meaning to the word crap! This place is in a great spot next to the airport. I work next to the airport and mentioned I was going there to eat and everybody tried to talk me out of it but I went anyway. The food was dry and tasteless and the place needs a good cleaning. Stay away...far away from this place!

Very good BLT club. Very good meatball tortellini soup. Real good breakfast. Fast service too today.

Stopped in on a Sunday afternoon. We were seated quickly but at a dirty table with dirty silverware. We did not stay to order food.

I haven't eaten here in years. I went back tonight and was not disappointed. The crab cakes are delicious. No filler. This entree comes with a side and their salad bar. Their salad bar is very nice, filled with fresh fruits, salads, and fresh breads and butters. The service was fast and I would highly recommend this restaurant if you are in the area. Open til 9pm.

I wish I could give zero stars to this poor excuse for a restaurant... On the way back from Philly to our beach house recently, my wife and I stopped in for a sandwich. We were led to a nice booth and greeted by a young girl waitress. My wife ordered a grilled cheese and asked for some DICED tomatoes in it. The young waitress repeated the order back and said of course- no problem. I ordered the veggie bean burger and she asked how would I like it cooked- which was odd, but I added "medium please". I ordered iced tea for my wife and me and added onion rings to my order. A full 28 minutes later our sandwiches appeared. My wife's order came with SLICED tomatoes- no biggie- and she just ate it anyway, I attempted to bite my burger and roll and nearly broke a tooth on the over-microwaved wheat roll. My wife laughed as the entire burger fell out onto the plate splattering ketchup and mustard on my polo shirt. 5 minutes later the waitress reappeared and I explained that perhaps something had gone awry in the kitchen and she quickly brought me a new roll. This one was mostly frozen... so I told her never mind- I'll just eat the patty and tomato/lettuce. The patty was cardboard but I ate it anyway... my wife was busy dabbing my shirt to remove the mustard/ketchup stains when the waitress came back to apologize that the cook was overwhelmed by a party in the next room. (Odd, since there were only 8 or 9 cars in the lot outside.) She was very timid about offering the explanation and I just accepted it as not totally her fault but rather (I assumed) an intimidating short order cook in the back somewhere. Upon leaving, I advised the floor manager at the register very quietly about the roll and she made a face and took off three dollars from the bill since "you ate the burger part"... with no apology or attempt at customer service. The waitress got her full tip. I was so angry that I vowed to open a yelp account and DID! Avoid this place at all costs.

There must not be enough Yelpers in Delaware. I mean, this place has been around for a long time, and only 3 reviews? What am I missing? I've been meaning to come here for years after seeing news stories about it a while back about being the place where all the local politicians eat. But being a Delco guy, I just don't drive down to New Castle that often, and wasn't willing to make the trip just for this place. But, since I happened to be in the area, I was able to finally make my stop at 8pm this past Saturday. I'll give the dinner food this basic rundown. It has plenty of choices, what you'd expect from a diner. The salad bar was a nice touch for the price, and I seemed to be in the mood for the pasta and potato salads (I did enjoy the tuna pasta salad very much). I got the turkey platter, and got exactly what you'd expect from a diner turkey platter. Literally, it tasted like the ones I've had all over the area, drenched in gravy. I don't consider this a bad thing. It was plenty of food and good enough. But... that pie! Good Lord, that pie! Hearing so much about it, I had to sample a piece. I decided on banana cream since they were out of their famous strawberry pie. Now, this is the first time I will say this about pie in my life. I actually wish it had more crust. Whatever they do to that crust, the combo of a good crusty bite with the creaminess of the banana filling just makes for sheer perfection. I'd now drive to New Castle just for some pie and coffee if I could. I'd say the food is around 3 1/2 stars, but that pie is 5 star quality all the way!

OK let's start by saying way understaffed...... Ordered breakfast... Potatoes hard not cooked !!!! Took 3times to get scrambled eggs I ordered.... They were cold and soggy wet ...undercooked .....pancakes so cold the butter did not melt. They took them back and microwaved them instead of a fresh new plate...toast cooked on one side not both sides.....that was the meal.....the woodwork and doors look like they have not been cleaned for a very long time......overall dirty......never going back...!!!!!!!

Our group of five stopped in for dinner before a local meeting. We were seated immediately, and the restaurant was not very busy. Our orders were taken promptly, and our food was delivered fairly quickly. The food was quite good, and nobody had any complaints about their order. The waitress was young, but seemed to know what she was doing. The prices for the meals were very reasonable, and we left happy. The only issue we encountered was during the paying of the bill. If you want to split out individual meals, make sure you say so before they produce the final ticket. They don't have an easy ability to do so after the fact. We will definitely be back.

This seems to be where we always end up after funerals in New Castle County, so it doesn't have the greatest associations in my mind, but they do have reasonably good comfort/diner food type offerings. And the bakery cases up front are like a little glimpse into heaven - I've never bought any of the baked goods, but they look spectacular. One of the reasons we usually end up there after funerals is that they can usually accommodate large groups pretty easily, at least on weekday mornings and afternoons. I've never been on a weekend.

Heartbreaking, how far this place has fallen. For many years, Arner's was a local favorite. Their pies are fresh and enormous and yummy. In the last 5-10 years, however, the quality of their dining experience has declined dramatically. My family and I stopped in for lunch around 1 p.m. on a Sunday. It was busy, but there was no wait to be seated. There was, however, a 45 minute wait from the time we ordered until our food arrived. At the 20 minute mark, the waitress told us she forgot to put our order in, but now it was in and on rush. A person I think was the manager then came up and offered to bring the blueberry muffin and sticky bun we ordered, while we waited for our main dishes. The blueberry muffin was dry and was, in fact, chocolate bits (not blueberry). The sticky bun was extremely dry and stale. The outside was hard; the inside was that kind of gooey that sticks grossly to your teeth. At the 30 minute mark, we were told our order went in after two tables of 8 and 15 people. This was where I lost all patience. Finally, our dishes came out. My son ordered french toast, which was fine. My husband ordered a home fries/egg scramble dish, which he said was bland. I ordered the cheddar, turkey and ham sandwich, which comes with the sweet potato fries and caramel sauce. They gave me regular fries (but fixed it upon my request). My sandwich had apple butter on one corner. There is no apple butter on the cheddar, turkey and ham sandwich. The waitress was nice, but overwhelmed (and admitted she was new and under-qualified for the job). The managers try to make up for the long ticket orders and mistakes, but they're constantly running behind the 8 ball. The patrons at the table next to ours joked with us in the parking lot that we finally got out of there. I saw them have to return 2 out of 4 dishes. Pancakes were burned, then replaced as everyone else was finished eating. They returned an alfredo dish and didn't want to order something else. My grandmother used to love this place. We'd stop for the salad bar and to grab a slice of pie. I don't know if the pie is still good; the pies in the case looked fine. But the sticky bun was a bad sign. I'm just thankful my grandmother isn't around to see how bad it is here now.

If I lived close by, I would systematical try every one of their pies. Standing in the front, waiting for a table, I just stared at all of the pies. I was very tempted to just say "the hell with it" and order a slice of each. However, I am not 7 years old, so I ordered breakfast like a big boy. I got a breakfast scrambler type thing with potatoes in it. It was good, though needed a bit of pepper. I also ordered a slice of lemon meringue pie. Very good, one of the best that I've had that wasn't homemade. Service was very friendly, and fast enough, even though it was a busy Sunday morning. All in all, a better diner than most, and it isn't even in New Jersey. Weird.

Dry Philly cheese steak, Instant mashed potatoes, Iceberg lettuce with horrible vinaigrette dressing, cold limp fries. Great service though. Ambiance, not so much. Better off avoiding this place. Wait service was ok.

While the dessert case looked awesome, I got a grilled chicken salad and didn't like it at all. The chicken was ok (bland) but the ranch dressing tasted like mayonaise. My boyfriend got a club which is hard to do poorly so it was good. The server was sweet, I just wish the food was better.

We went there for breakfast and found the food to be terrible and very over priced. I paid $7 for drinks alone which include coffee hot tea and a chocolate milk. The service was also not that great. I ended up helping myself to silverware, ketchup, and a glass of water. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone.

Delaware is great for lots of things like beaches and tax free shopping, but sometimes finding an establishment worthy of our discerning palates can be difficult. I'm not a fan of chains, I will do whatever possible not to eat in them. Seriously, life is too short. My mother is an early bird kinda gal, she goes to bed bad 9, so she eats dinner early. By the time we go to New Castle she was ready for dinner. Our pickings were slim and they were grim too. Arby's had the highest ratings on yelp! We drove past Arner's and then we turned around and took a chance. The parking lot was pretty full, which we generally take to be a positive sign. The specials were also pretty great too. So, we took the leap. For the third night in a row I was jealous of my mom. Her pork and sauerkraut was amazing. They must have been braising this pork for days. It was buttery and paper thin mixed in with sauerkraut and a bit of grated apple. I could have done without the apple. I love the piquant-ness of sauerkraut. Her dinner was served with a heaping portion of yukon mashed potatoes that were most definitely homemade! I had batter dipped cod, which was pretty excellent. It was not soggy at all and better than a lot of cod I've had elsewhere. The baked potato was meh, I was envious of the mashed potatoes. I forgot to mention the salad bar, it was a well maintained old school salad bar. Plates kept in a chiller, tons of mayonnaise-ladden salads. I liked the coleslaw but didn't try the rest. My mother has made me a neurotic mess about mayonnaise salads left out. The beets were vinegary and lovely. My mother said the apple butter was either homemade or from an excellent purveyor. Our entrees also came with dessert, bread pudding, rice pudding or ice cream. Our waitress was a sweet older woman who mentioned both the puddings had raisins which is just adorable. Because ten years ago I would have been like ewww I have to pick out raisins! She also packed them for us to go because we had no room. You have two plates of salad and then enough food for six people comes out and your full. Then the bill comes two dinners, with salad bar a starch and dessert for 19 bucks? I think were in a time warp. As I was paying the bill, I was eyeing up the counter. A glass display of mile high pies and cakes. This little darling girl in front of me, maybe all of 9 years old tells me ,"See that strawberry pie back there? It's realllllll good." Seriously a zillion kinds of pies. Some of them a foot tall! If you are hungry and in New Castle stop in.

Well, I have been visiting Arner's for many years, but had been out of state for a few years now. Their salad bar was one to come visit with their homemade bread with whipped butter that you slice yourself. NOPE none -- some (you can get anywhere) rolls were in their place. Salad bar was ok. Now let us talk desserts, I love lemon meringue pie. Big piece of pie, but the filling if homemade they need to fire the baker! OMG lumpy lemon pie??!!!!???? New Owners? don't know. Is this why we did not wait in a long line, which was par the course for this restaurant?

Had a horrible breakfast. They made it twice because it came out cold the first time. The second breakfast had no taste the stale toast tasted like cardboard the home fries had no taste, the omelet also had no taste.

This place is a New Castle institution. I've been coming here for great meals since the mid seventies. Weekend breakfasts are always busy, what does that tell you ? Great Food.... This is the GO TO PLACE for the BEST cakes and pies in the state of Delaware. Wonderful Boston cream and Banana Cream Pies !

over priced dinner food. I ordered a burger with Onion rings for take out. Got my order and it had for Rings with the meal and they charged me $15. I called and compllained and they stated that was the normal amount of rings they give. Not for $15. Never again will I eat here.

Ended up having breakfast here because the line at ihop was too long. It definitely work out though! Blueberry pancakes were tasty and the meat lovers omelette with bacon ham and sausage was good too--just wished they used a little less egg and a little more meat. Service was great and ambiance was comfortable. Very family friendly as well. Would definitely recommend!

I ordered their coconut custard pie; I have to say I was very disappointed because it looks so good. The pie tasted more like eggs and coconut. The custard just was not very good. I actually returned it and got lemon merengue which was a little better. I'm not sure if I'll go back again

Great home style food. Decent Salad Bar and very friendly staff. Their baked on premises Pies are fantastic. My favorite entrees is the roast Turkey dinner. Real Turkey, real mashed potatoes and edible stuffing. Oh, and the prices are very reasonable.

Good pie. We went to Arner's for pie...and we were not disappointed. Their fruit pies are all made with fruit compote, so we opted for mile high cream pies. We sampled three: chocolate oreo, coconut cream and banana cream. They reminded us of the delicious cream pies we ate at the Pine Lodge near Bryce Canyon. The owner, Aunt Ethel, does not have to worry. These pies are not as good as hers, but we gave the chocolate and the banana solid 7s. The coconut cream rated a 6, due to not enough coconut pieces in the pie.

Had breakfast there this morning. Big mistake! We were seated and ordered right away and 40 minutes later the simple egg breakfast came out. It was ice cold and the toast was cold and mushy and not buttered. Guess it must have been sitting awhile waiting to be delivered. I have given this place a few chances before deciding never to go again. But this was the last time. And the price was $16 for my husband and myself. We each had two eggs, I had bacon and he had scrapple. We did not want potatoes and got the cold tasteless things anyhow. To expensive and done with them.
